Charleston Beaches

Charleston offers much more than gorgeous mansions, fascinating sites and interesting shops and restaurants. Our Charleston, SC hotel is located a few miles from excellent beaches. A short trip over the Intracoastal Waterway leads to James Island followed by Folly Beach. Also found near our downtown Charleston hotel is Sullivan’s Island and Kiawah Island, famous for its five championship golf courses.

The closest beach to our Charleston, SC hotel, Folly Beach offers six miles of sand and surf. Locals come out early to catch the biggest waves in Charleston, perfect for surfing. Surf shacks and rental stands dot the beach, and a marina and restaurant provide even more entertainment.

If you like your history with your beach time, Sullivan’s Island is the place for you. Once a settlement in the 1790s, the beach has since become a popular destination for tourists exploring Fort Moultrie National Park and the grand private residences that were once war batteries.

Golfers tend to avoid the sand, but not so at Kiawah Island. Home to an excellent beach and five championship golf courses, it is perhaps the only “sand trap” that golfers are excited to visit. The golf courses were designed by legendary players such as Jack Nicklaus, Clyde Johnston, Gary Player, Pete Dye and Tom Fazio.
